There are many recommendations for communication between the hearing and the people who are part of the deaf/blind community. It is wise to talk with someone about communication prior to meeting the person for the first time when not possible, the following are some recommendations for communicating between the hearing and non-hearing community.

Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor, two undergraduate students at the University of Washington have worked to invent a new way to communicate. Their invention, SignAloud gloves, which can translate American Sign Language into speech or text have prompted a lot of interest.
They developed the gloves to provide a bridge between native speakers of American Sign Language and people who do not sign.
