3 December 2020: International Day of Persons with Disabilities

It’s that time of the year again, December 3rd, which is a global observance called the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day has been in existence since October 14th, 1992 when the UN General Assembly proclaimed it. Around the world folks will participate in exhibitions that promote disabled artists, gather for protests that highlight the continued disparity of full participation in their community that disabled folks face everyday, and so much more. As a disabled person, my own appreciation for myself and my community has grown in the last year as I’ve become more aware of the incredible disabled voices that exist in our world. While representation isn’t anywhere close to where it needs to be, I’m grateful for the continued work that society at large is doing to bring awareness to the forefront. This recognized observance is a start. Check out this page to learn more!
