5 Ways Punch-In Can Keep You Motivated This Summer

Summer is now upon us and with that you may be wondering whether to pause or delay your job search. Or maybe you just need a little extra motivation in the process. Many people do halt their job searches over the summer, so it's actually a good time to keep yourself in the game and get the automatic edge of being active.

As you enjoy the summer sunshine, here are some ways Punch-In can help keep you going to find the perfect job:

1Summer is a great time to polish up your social media profile to put your best self out there. Need ideas and tips? Watch the interview with Anne Pryor, a Top LinkedIn Trainer and Career Coach. Anne works with job seekers to create their branded online visibility to attract and create successful business and employment opportunities. She recently worked with Emily Keeler, a member on Punch-In, to improve and brand her social media presence. The results were excellent and raised her social profile to a new professional status.

2Celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA was signed into law on July 26, 1990. Celebrating the ADA is a way of bringing attention to the important work of promoting equal opportunity for people with disabilities. It’s a great way for you to connect to the disability community and you can even use the event as an employment networking occasion. To find an event near you, go to your regional ADA Center’s website and watch for ADA events listed on Punch-In.

3Sometimes reading about other young professionals and their journey can be very motivating.  Punch-In has dozens of interviews and highlights of individuals with disabilities discussing their job search and career passions.  You may find inspiration and advice specific to your chosen field or just get the spark you need to keep going by hearing these success stories. You can find these highlights at From the Field.

4Are you preparing for an interview or starting a new position and considering requesting an accommodation? There are many factors that go into disclosing your disability to receive a reasonable accommodation.  The Punch-In expert interview with Cindy Tarshish, Program Manager of ADA Minnesota, explores both the legal and personal considerations in this process. And, if you do request an accommodation keep in mind most accommodations are very low cost, which is good to let the employer know. Check out the article on low cost accommodations on Punch-In.

5Did you know you can post an article of your own on Punch-In? Writing an article about your experience as a person with a disability, a career related resource, or a trending topic in your field is a great way to get exposure and share your expertise. And you can add a bullet point to your resume! Posting is easy to do, from the top menu, select My Profile and then from within your profile page select Blog Posts and then Add New. Punch-In blog posts are moderated, so we’ll approve it before it goes live.

GREAT ideas Janet! I love Anne Pryor. She really knows her stuff on LinkedIn and highly recommend her. Keeping your skills sharp is so important. Always be networking.

These are all great ideas, Janet! Thanks for posting. And yes, I do agree with your point about continuing the job search well into the summer. It can give you an edge as a lot of jobseekers tend to equate summertime as a time to relax--but there are always jobs to be found!
