December 3rd is an important day for the disabled population of the world. In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3 named it the annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons. It’s main aim is to ensure the continued promotion of “the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.”
The theme for 2019 is “Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres states that the essential achievement and promise of the 2030 Agenda is “to leave no one behind.”
